The main public spaces of the International Riverfront, such as RiverWalk, Dequindre Cut Greenway and Trail, William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor, and cruise ship and cruise ship terminals at Hart Plaza complement the architecture of the area. Histori

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, incorporated in the 501 (c) (3) organization, helped raise funds for the International Riverfront project. Developers plan an initial praseade river investment of $ 559 million, which includes a $ 135 million contribution from GM and $ 50 million from the Kresge Foundation.

This development marks a step toward the city's potential bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Detroit has made the final selection of the Summer Olympic bid more often than the failed bid city, participating in the IOC election for 1944 (third place, behind the London auction winner) , 1952 (4th place), 1960 (third place), 1964 (second place), 1968 (second place) and 1972 (4th place) of the game. (Los Angeles has made more bids by nine, but is hosted twice) If accepted as a US candidate by USOC, this will be the eighth city offer. Lowering crime rates increases Detroit's prospects for USOC competition. Faygo soft drink producer has stepped up its business as a major sponsor. Successful events such as Super Bowl XL have showcased Detroit as a city that used to accommodate many people.

Features

This area contains the Detroit River International Wildlife Reserve, which is the only international wildlife reserve in North America, uniquely located in the heart of major metropolitan areas. The Refuge includes islands, coastal swamps, swamps, shoals, and 48 miles (77 km) seaside land of the Detroit River and the western coastline of Lake Erie.

Belle Isle Park

Belle Isle Park is a 982 hectare (397 acre: 1,534 m²) island state park on the Detroit River run by the State of Michigan. Until November 12, 2013, it is a park operated by a city operated by the Detroit City Recreation Department. Connected to the city by MacArthur Bridge. It is home to the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory (1904), the oldest conservatory in the United States, the Detroit Yacht Club, the Detroit Boat Club, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, the Coast Guard post, and the city's golf course. The park has a Nature Center where visitors can cross wooded pathways and see wildlife habitats. The island includes a swimming beach along the 800 m.

Chene Park

Chene Park is located on the east side near Detroit, at the foot of Chene Street, along the banks of the Detroit River. Located east of Tri-Centennial State Park and Harbor, it contains an amphitheater of 6,000 concert venues scheduled on a regular basis each summer. Jazz, Classic Soul and Rhythm and Blues act as staples this season. The park also includes a garden path, Chene Park Fountain, and Lake Lounge bar. The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy connects the park to the Renaissance Center along the riverwalk.

Dequindre Cut Greenway

Dequindre Cut Greenway is a non-motorized line extending from the Detroit River to the north, with future potential to connect to the Ferndale-Birmingham highway in Oakland County. The long lane mile (1.6 km) mainly connects the Lafayette Park neighborhood and the Eastern Market to the Riverwalk. The green line uses half of the corridor, with a 20-foot (6.1 m) asphalt road with a separate path for biking and walking.

Phase I construction of Dequindre Cut Greenway, stretching from River one mile (1.6 km) north to Gratiot Avenue, is completed. Funded by the MDOT Transportation Improvement Program and the Southeast Michigan Community Foundation, this section of the green line organizes templates for future phases and includes a 20-foot (6.1 m) bitumen pathway; sloping access for cyclists, pedestrians and emergency vehicles; landscape; lighting; signs and security cameras. The first phase of the line was officially opened on 14 May 2009 with a ribbon opening ceremony at the entrance of Woodbridge Street on the green road between Orleans Street and St.. Aubin Street.

The project of Dequindre Cut Greenway phase II North begins at the northern end of Phase I on Gratiot Avenue and continues for over half a mile to Mack Avenue. The strategic plan for phase II provides a design approach and project budget based on learning in phase I construction.

The Dequindre Cut is famous for its high quality graffiti that covers the corridor walls. The Riverfront Conservancy that operates the green line will allow current and future painting to remain as long as it is not considered offensive. This trail is one of the city's few public art galleries and is a major attraction for urban photographers.

GM Plaza and Promenade

The Renaissance Center , nicknamed RenCen , is a group of seven interconnected skyscrapers in Detroit, Michigan, and the tallest building in Michigan since 1977. Located at Detroit International Riverfront , the entire Renaissance Center complex is owned by General Motors. The central tower is occupied by Detroit Marriott in the Renaissance Center , the highest all-hotel skyscraper in the western hemisphere with the largest rooftop restaurant, called Coach Insignia. The complex contains many restaurants, various shops, and a vehicle display known as GM World. GM donated part of the plaza and promenade to the Riverfront Conservancy upon completion. Cruise passenger terminal stands at Hart Plaza, adjacent to the Renaissance Center. In 2003, General Motors completed a $ 500 million renovation from the Renaissance Center for its headquarters that had been purchased in 1996. Skidmore, Owings & amp; Merrill, Gensler, Smith Group, and Ghafari Associates were among the architects for renovation. Most construction operations are led by the Turner Construction Company. Renovations include the addition of a five-storey Wintergarden that provides access to the Detroit International Riverfront.

Work continues in and around the complex until 2005. The Renaissance Center is 5.5 million square feet (511.000 m²), making it one of the largest office complexes in the world.

Hart Plaza and Dock of Detroit

Philip A. Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit, is a city plaza along the Detroit River. It is located more or less on the site where Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac landed in 1701 when he founded Fort Pontchartrain du DÃÆ' Â © troit , the settlement being Detroit. In 2011, the Detroit-Wayne County Port Authority opened a new cruise passenger terminal and dock at Hart Plaza, adjacent to the Renaissance Center, which received major cruise ships such as MS Columbus and Yorktown.

The 14-acre plaza (5.7Ã, ha), named for US Senator Philip Hart, opened in 1975 and has a capacity of about 40,000 people. In the center of the square is Horace E. Dodge and Son Memorial Fountain, designed by Isamu Noguchi and Walter Budd in 1978.

River Place

Historic Stroh River Place complex is a multi-purpose residential development adjacent to the Roberts Riverwalk Hotel and Residence, a re-developed location of the Parke-Davis research laboratory, a National Historic Landmark located along the east bank. The historic Dry Dock Complex is an additional site rebuilt along the east edge of the housing and retail units.

River Walk

The Detroit International Riverfront includes a 5 ½ mile (8.8 km) promenade called River Walk that will be extended from Ambassador Bridge to Belle Isle. The line is located directly on the river, sometimes bridging it. This line has a width of 62 feet (18 m) in most places, with separate paths for pedestrian and wheel traffic (such as bicycles or inline skates). Pavilions, fishing docks, and benches lie at a distance along the way.

The east bank connects an area known as Rivertown. It extends along the eastern edge of the Cobo Center convention and exhibition facility to the Belle State State Park bridge and includes the Renaissance Center, GM Plaza and Promenade, State Parks and Port William G. Milliken, Stroh River Place, Chene Park, Mt Elliott Park and Gabriel Richard Park. The river path is designed to add new retail and residential development, and includes the recently renovated Alden Park Towers. Architect Eric J. Hill assists in its design.

The first 5.6 km (5.6 km) of continuous riverbank balconies and two of the four planned pavilions opened to the public on 6 June 2007. Rivard Plaza located at the foot of Rivard Street has seats covered, carousel, concession and bicycle rentals. The Richard Plaza, located in Gabriel Richard Park features a covered seating area, concessions and a butterfly garden. The River Walk continues from Joe Louis Arena to Milliken State Park with an unfinished section between the state park and River Place. From River Place, River Walk then proceed through Mt Elliott Park to the former Ban Uniroyal plant site west of Belle Isle. The development of the western river promenade is not expected to be completed before 2012. The west bank includes the high-rise Riverfront Tower. The western riverbank will eventually connect to the Rouge River on the southwest side.

William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor

State Park of William G. Milliken and Harbor (formerly State Park Tri-Centennial and Harbor ) is a state park in Michigan, and one of only two state parks located within the urban areas. This park consists of St. Aubin Park and Marina which previously belonged to the city. Located just east of downtown Detroit on the Near-East Riverfront, it covers 31 acres (13 ha) on the Detroit River, and includes 52-slip harbor protection. A 63-foot cone brick tower (19 m) marks the entrance of the harbor. The first phase of the park opened in 2003, including marina repairs and the construction of lighthouses. Construction in the second phase, adjacent to Rivard Plaza, to expand the park began in summer 2008 and completed in summer 2009. In the fall of 2009, the state park was renamed in honor of former Michigan Governor William G. Milliken.

Riverfront Activities

Detroit River Days, a five-day festival on International Riverfront, marks the opening of a river promenade along the eastern river that leads to the Detroit-Windsor International Freedom Festival fireworks. Detroit and Windsor jointly celebrated the last multi-day festival of the last week of June drawing around 3.5 million visitors a week to commemorate the national holidays of each country - (US Independence Day on July 4 and Canada Day on July 1). The festival began in 1959. The event is hosted by the Parade Company, a well-sponsored non-profit organization organized by the Michigan Thanksgiving Parade Foundation.

Traditionally, several days of events are planned, ending with one of the largest fireworks show in the world, sponsored by Target. In previous years, fireworks display has been billed as the largest in the world. On the Windsor side, there is a mid-carnival consisting of rides and concessions during the festival. Midway operates as a stand-alone attraction in late June, early July.

The Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF) is an electronic dance music performance held at Hart Plaza every Memorial Day weekend since 2000. In subsequent years, a similar festival-themed Movement (2003-2004), Fuse-In (2005) and when This, Movement: The Detroit Electronic Music Festival (2006-present) continues the DEMF tradition, with every name change reflecting a shift in festival management. All these festivals feature performances by musicians and DJs, and emphasize the progressive quality of the culture around electronic music.

The International Riverfront hosts the part of the Detroit International Jazz Festival held at Hart Plaza every Labor Day weekend. Hart Plaza is also the traditional location of the rally to celebrate the championship won by Detroit's big sports team. Both Detroit and Windsor have hosted the Red Bull Air Race World Championship at the International Riverfront.
