Ocean Center is a convention center located in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is the fifth largest convention center in Florida.

About

The Ocean Center has a main meeting room of 205,000 square feet (19,000m 2 ); 42,000 square feet (3,900 m 2 ) from the exhibition hall in the main arena, 14,000 square feet (1,300m 2 ) space in the Ballroom and 32,000 square feet (3,000m 2 ) meeting room. The new addition of Exhibit Hall has 94,695 square feet (8,797,5 m 2 ), ceiling height: 22 to 45 feet (14 m), entrance: 20 'x 16', and 6 docks loading with self-adjusting rectifier. 100,000 square feet (9,300m 2 ) from the parking lot/outdoor exhibition space was also added near Exhibit Hall.

Thanks to a $ 3 million grant from an ECHO program approved by voters, the Ocean Center in the region has a magnificent entrance. Grants from the ECHO grant aid program are used to create a Cultural Information Center (CIC). The funds are used for site preparation and CIC development, an increase of 51,635 square feet (4,797.0 m 2 ) lobby space with collection, toilet and concession facilities. It features works from the "Art of Public Places" program and has a special area for permanent artwork and visits and displays the culture of all areas of Volusia County. The large entrance also includes a new façade and entrance along N. Atlantic Avenue. Another feature of the new entrance lobby and the CIC is a marquee mural on the west wall above the ballroom door, visible from the inside and outside facilities. Mural will change with exhibition center. The center and its displays are in the highest pedestrian traffic area for the venue. Main arena of 6,176 seats for ice hockey and soccer arena, 8,362 for basketball, 7,184 for circus, 7,380 for ice shows, 8,582 for wrestling and 9,440 for concerts. The Ocean Center is also used for banquets, trade shows, high school graduations, conventions and other events.

History

In 1985, Ocean Center opened with 60,000 square feet (5,600 m 2 ) exhibition hall and 18 breakout spaces. Christian pop singer Amy Grant made her first concert at Ocean Center on October 3, 1985, singing for 2,938 people. John Denver was an opening act two days later, performing into a crowd of 7,368.

Important event

The Ocean Center has presented The Harlem Globetrotters, Lipizzaner Stallions & amp; Larry the Cable Guy, among others. Other entertainment events include Ringling Brothers and Barnum & amp; Bailey Circus, Miss Teen USA Pageant and WWE Live. The fun and hairy characters of Sesame Street have often performed at the Ocean Center. Family production had many performances in 1985 -86, and back in the 1990s and 2000s. In October 1997, the Ocean Center organized the Nice N 'Easy U.S. Classic Skating. Skaters include Tara Lipinski, Michelle Kwan, Dorothy Hamill, Nicole Bobek, Rosalynn Summers, Kyoko Ina, Jason Dungjen, Todd Eldredge, Rudy Galindo, Michael Weiss, Elizabeth Punsalan, and Jerod Swallow. The show was broadcast later on ABC. The Ocean Center also hosts The Passion Conferences, starring Chris Tomlin Worship Singer. As the Halifax area has become a separate market from Orlando in recent years, Ocean Center has organized concerts by action with ties to Florida, including Gloria Estefan, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty and Heartbreakers, and, most recently, Pitbull (tour with Enrique Iglesias), Maroon 5 and Ariana Grande.

World Championship Wrestling held their third annual Bash at The Beach Pay-per-view at Ocean Center in 1996, where Hulk Hogan, renowned as one of the biggest fan favorites of all time turns heels during the last moments of the show, this in turn creating the NWO and is the catalyst for perhaps some of the most influential times in professional wrestling.

Hulk Hogan turned his heels once again in this arena, at Impact Wrestling's sixth Bound for Glory. He intervened in the main event and formed an alliance with Eric Bishoff to help Jeff Hardy win the World Wrestling Heavyweight Championship, and form the Immortal, with Jeff Jarrett and Abyss.

Sports

Ocean Center hosted the Trans-American Men's Athletic Conference basketball tournament in 1988. It is also home to several Bethune-Cookman University basketball games. Harlem Globetrotters often visit the Ocean Center arena and Magic Basketball Tournament Championships are held there. The National Cheerleader Association and the State Cheer and Dance Competition have been held by Ocean Center for over 20 years. Many Volleyball Competitions are held at the Ocean Center including the Daytona 100 Volleyball Competition and the Florida Volleyball Festival. The Gymnastics Tournament is played at Ocean Center including Ace Gymnastics and Pan American Gymnastics.

Ice Hockey

The Daytona Beach Sun Devils of the dead Sunshine Hockey League played a hockey match at Ocean Center from 1992-1995. In 1995, the team and the league changed their name to Daytona Beach Breakers, playing in the Southern Hockey League. After the 1995-96 season, teams and leagues folded.

  • National Reptile Breeders Expo - Annual event held every third week of August for 3 days. This event allows consumers to view and buy reptiles at the convention center.
  • National High School Drill Championships (http://nhsdtc.thenationals.net) - An event held since the building opened historically held on the first weekend in May of each year. This event brings together many of the best middle school ROTC junior units doing military exercises & amp; ceremonial events including military inspections, drill regulations, color guards and armed & amp; training of individuals and unarmed teams. The event maintains an active military judge and hosts around 4,000 people during 3 days of competition. NHSDTC events use every square inch of the Ocean Center Center and Conference Center, as well as all escape spaces throughout.
  • National Youth Football Championship (http://football.thenationals.net) - An event held since the building opened historically held on the American Thanksgiving weekend each year. The event brings together youth soccer and cheerleading programs from across eastern North America and overseas teams sometimes. The show hosts NFL cheerleaders, youth cheering competitions, and elaborate awards ceremonies that accommodate about 2,500 people over the 4-day competition weekend.
