Plot

After Robin is upset about the gang who is not watching his show, they all agree to watch Robin's talk show 4:00 in the morning. Ted tells them that Karen broke up with her after finding Robin's earrings on her bed. Ted found a matching earring in Marshall's closet and turned off the television to confront Marshall, believing he had sabotaged his relationship.

Lily claims that she is a saboteur, because she has been in previous relationships, including - by accident - with Robin. He justifies his actions by using the "Terrace Front Test" - an indication of how they will live together once they are old. The scenes featured Marshall, Lily and Ted on the bridge playing away in the future, their interaction with Ted's potential partner who drives Lily's action now.

Robin returns home to find out that his friends missed the full program broadcast because of the argument. Lily insists she does not want to destroy it, but only to consider their future together, suggestions that encourage the conversation that will lead to their separation. Ted heads to the bar the next day to find Karen waiting, after the situation is explained to her by Lily. Karen handed Ted a letter from Lily, which contained an apology, and lets Ted know that Lily had prepared a good dinner at Ted's apartment for her and Karen. Ted broke up with Karen, though, after he said Ted could never see someone as Lily's manipulative again and he imagined what the future looks like without him and Marshall. Back at the apartment, Ted asks Robin to be his "plus one" and they enjoy the food Lily has prepared. They wonder if they will stay together if it were not for Lily's intervention. Ted then makes a fake proposal for Robin, asking him to be his "spare wife". He accepted.

Marshall wore a nightgown to a pajama party to watch Robin's show, while Barney wore a silk suit. Barney insisted that his choice of clothing was superior, on the grounds that an attractive woman might come to his house at night and see how good he looked, but later acknowledged how unlikely it was and how uncomfortable "jasjamas" was. Marshall convinces Barney to try on a nightgown instead. Barney and Marshall delighted in their nightgown, dreaming of flying together in it. Barney started wearing a nightgown to sleep. A week later, an attractive woman shows up in her apartment at night - but, after seeing her nightgown, she decides to leave, much to Barney's dismay.
