Synopsis

From the Sundance Program Description:

"With the internet surpassing print as our main news source, and bankrupt newspapers,... Page One tells the transformation of the media industry and assesses the high stakes for democracy... The film is swiftly making the front line for the eye of a storm or, depending on how you see it, the media shrine, gained unexpected access to the newsroom of the New York Times for a year.On the media table, the play-in-a-play dialectic takes place as a salty writer David Carr tracks the metamorphosis of print journalism even as their papers strive to remain vital and solvent, publish material from WikiLeaks and encourage authors to connect more directly with their audience, while rigorous journalism-including live cross-chamber debate and collaboration, which is tenacious for recorded excerpts, and a skilled one-page footing - is alive and well Resources, intellectual capital, stamina, and loyalty n self mobilized when calculated to prove that e there is no shortcut when analyzing and reporting complex truths. Critical reception

The film was nominated for the 2011 Critics' Choice Award for Best Documentary and has also been nominated for two News & amp; Emmy Documentary Award.

The film received positive reviews from critics, with an 80% approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes and an average score of 68 in Metacritic. It also receives A from indieWire. Katey Rich of Cinema Blend wrote, "Even 30 years from now... Page One will remain an important and fascinating news portrait as well as the people who made it." Entertainment Weekly describes the movie as "unexpected-must-see doc", while Vanity Fair calls it "slick, fun, and very sexy." Somewhat less positive, Justin Chang of Variety said about the film, "Rossi's coverage of daily news meetings and interviews with editorial staff are not as expected or expected as possible, but for journals (which will most likely be spectators the most faithful in this movie, just being a fly on this holy wall will offer a lot to enjoy, "but Eric Kohn from the Indiewire counter," Rossi captures the little things in the newsroom, from quick interview transcriptions to the rush of deadlines , as if observing the Olympic sport. "Regarding David Carr, Tim Wu of Slate describes him as" a sympathetic hero for what turned out to be a riveting movie, "and David Fear of Time Out Chicago adds, "its similar attitude to Menc-Link against old school reporting offers the best example of why traditional news gathering will never really die." Sebastian Dogga rt of the UK Telegraph describes Carr as "Keith Richards of the Fourth Estate", and adds that the film is "mesmerizing" and "inspiring."

An important departure from positive reception is Michael Kinsley's review on The Times itself. He notes: "After seeing Page One , I do not know more than I did before." The movie directed by Andrew Rossi is, in a word, a mess. "

The film is currently the seventh most popular newspaper on Netflix streaming.
