Navarre is a designated place of the Census and an unrelated community in Santa Rosa County in the northwest Florida Panhandle. This is a bedroom community for most U.S. Military personnel, Civil Servants, local residents, pensioners, and defense contractors. Due to its proximity to Navarre Beach and the four-mile coastline of the Gulf of Mexico, excluding Navarre Beach Marine Park, as well as Gulf Islands National Seashore, it has a small but growing growing natural and tourist community..
Navarre is about 25 miles east of Pensacola and about 15 miles west of Fort Walton Beach. The community is roughly centered at the intersection of US Route 98 and State Road 87. It is part of the Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Brent Metropolitan Statistical Area (more commonly referred to as Pensacola Metro Area), and is the second largest community in the metropolitan area, according to a study 2014. Navarre is part of the Fort Walton Beach-Navarre-Wright Urbanized Area. It is known for its natural environment, swimming, picnic area, and county park located in the Gulf of Mexico.

History
Pez-SigÃÆ'¼enza Expedition of 1693
In 1693 Spanish explorers, Carlos de SigÃÆ'¼enza y GÃÆ'³ngora and Admiral AndrÃÆ'  © s de Pez y MalzÃÆ'¡rraga sailing from Veracruz, Mexico. A skilled cartographer, scientist, mathematician and theologian, SigÃÆ'¼enza was responsible for locating and mapping out the possibility of Spanish colonization sites in Northwest Florida during the expedition. While traveling in the East Bay area in April 1693, Spain discovered what is now called the East Bay River. In honor of Captain Jordan de Reina, an officer who had participated in the 1686 Sruber-Romero voyage and SigÃÆ'¼enza's in 1693, Spain dubbed the waters where they traveled, the "Jordan River". On April 11, 1693, while sailing to the East Bay River, sailors aboard Spanish ships saw a group of Native Americans observing from a camp near the coast. To welcome the natives, a landing party is sent. By the time Spain reached the shore, however, Native Americans had gone. When the natives quickly left the camp, the Spaniards found a piece of half-baked buffalo meat placed on the fire, along with a ferocious dog that guarded the location. Because of the abundance of oak trees in the camping area called "El Robledal," which means "The Oakgrove" in Spanish. After setting up a wooden cross and leaving a gift for the natives, the Spaniards continued their exploration upstream. Upon returning to El Robledal, the explorers noticed that their gifts had been taken. In return, the natives also built wooden crosses and left buffalo skins as peace offerings. The earliest known Robledal map dates back to 1693, the same year as the Pez-SigÃÆ'¼enza Expedition. Three years later, on map 1698 by Don Andrà © s de Arriola y GuzmÃÆ'¡n (the first governor of a settlement in the Pensacola area after the TristÃÆ'¡n de Luna y Arellano colony was abandoned), Robledal was once again recorded.
Eagan City
Approximately 41 years before Guy H. Wyman climbed Navarre, a small settlement called Eagan appeared in 1884. The settlement, made up of forty families, is located outside of Santa Rosa Sound and covers most of today's Navarre. The settlement, which previously existed as a post office location, was named after its first postmaster, John Eagan Esq., A famous Pensacola lawyer and politician. After the post office suspension on September 11, 1884, the family continued to live in the area, and the city continued to appear on the regional map even until the 1890s. While what became of the city and the people who lived there at that time was unknown, the discovery of the definitive existence of the city established the settlement of the Navarre region in Southern Santa Rosa County as before the 20th century. The land where Eagan is, in fact, then becomes what is now known as Navarre.
Guy Wyman and city development
The founder of Navarre is Guy Wyman, a colonel in the United States Army. During World War I, he met a French nurse named Noelle. At that time, immigration policy would not allow her to take her to the United States as a fiancé or even as a wife, but she could take her back as her legal son. Colonel Wyman therefore adopted him, and took him back to Florida to poke in, where he bought large quantities of land. Noelle named their owners Navarre after the province of Spain, near France. Wyman connected the city in 1925, but did not take any steps toward development. However, during the Great Depression, the Wyman people were unable to pay taxes, and were forced to start selling them. Part of the property is where Navarre Park is now. While protecting and improving the natural environment of the region; several steps have been taken to develop luxury accommodation, water activities, shopping boutiques, tourist tracks, schools and nature/educational opportunities.
Helicopter crash
On March 10, 2015, UH-60 from the Eglin Air Force Base crashed in Santa Rosa Sound off the coast of the Navarre community. The eleven people on board are believed to have been killed. On November 18, 2016, Leader of the Santa Rosa Class 29 announced the Navarre Black Hawk Warning at Navarre Park. The memorial was built in honor of those killed in Black Hawk accidents and anyone who has paid the highest sacrifices in service to the United States.
Protest
2017 and 2018 have seen a marked increase in civil activism in the Navarre region, with three prominent protests taking place, all within a span of 12 months.
The first recorded protest in the community occurred on June 9, 2017, after the county unilaterally changed the city's nickname and popular local sign. The amendment was made without the consent of the townspeople and has sparked an additional call for the merger of the community as a municipality.
There are currently protests against the Holly-Navarre Air System. The protest surpassed the potential water system violations of the Florida Sunshine Law, which ensured citizens and citizens the right to access public meetings and records from government agencies. An alleged violation occurs when the agency's board of directors meets for what they call a "secret" meeting. The Chairman of the Board stated that the meeting was closed because of their nature discussing legal issues between board members and some lawyers and lawyers. Attractions
Navarre is centered near the US Highway 98 intersection, the main east-west route between Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach area, and State Road 87. Located near several major military facilities: Naval Air Station Pensacola to the west; Hurlburt Field and Eglin Air Force Base in the east; and Air Cooling Station Navy to the North.
Tourism has increased in the Navarre area since 2010, declared the "Florida Best Kept Secret" by the local hospitality business. Navarre has a park on the mainland next to the Navarre Beach and Intracoastal Waterway bridges containing the Visitor Information Center; water splash pad, duck pond, butterfly house, playground, gazebo; pier and small beach area. Boating, Surfing, jet skiing, rowing, fishing, bird watching, exploring beautiful walkways and walking/jogging are popular among residents and visitors. Navarre's fourth hotel, Springhill Suites, became the first beach hotel to operate since 2004 when it opened in 2017.
In 2010 Navarre Beach fishing dock was rebuilt after recurrent damage caused by hurricanes. At 1,545 feet, it is currently the longest fishing jetty in the Gulf of Mexico and in the state of Florida.
The Panhandle Butterfly House at Navarre Parkway opened in 1997. Approximately 14,000 visitors quit each year to see butterflies closely, learn about their life cycle, and figure out how to draw butterflies into their own gardens. The highlight of each year is the king's migration; orange and black butterflies are seen in the thousands as they travel to and from Mexico to breed. Navarre Park provides a play area for children, basketball courts, picnic pavilions and toilet facilities. The park hosts several major community events each year.
Hurricanes
As a low-elevation community near the Gulf of Mexico, Navarre is often threatened by hurricanes. Significant damage caused by Hurricane Erin, Opal, Ivan and Dennis. Many homes and businesses soon along Santa Rosa Sound (generally south of the US Highway 98) suffered a storm surge from the storm. Recovery has been done by the area with rapidly growing population.
