Daniel "Danny" Meyer (born March 14, 1958) is a restaurant owner in New York City and Chief Executive Officer of Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG).

Background and start of career
Meyer was born and raised in a reformed Jewish family in St. Petersburg. Louis, where he studied at John Burroughs School. Meyer attended Nebagamon Camp for boys in Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin, as a child. Meyer worked for his father as a tour guide in Rome during college, and then returned to Rome to study international politics. Meyer is brother of Alpha Delta Phi when at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. After graduating from Trinity in 1980 with a degree in political science, Meyer worked in Chicago as Cook County Field Director for the independent presidential campaign of John Anderson in 1980. Meyer then gained his first restaurant experience in 1984 as an assistant manager at Pesca, a food restaurant the Italian Sea in the Flatiron District of New York City. He then returned to Europe to study cooking as a culinary stagiaire in Italy and Bordeaux.

Careers
In 1985, at the age of 27, Meyer opened his first restaurant, Union Square Cafe. To make it successful, Danny Meyer focuses on customer satisfaction.
Meyer's Restaurants and other businesses include Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, Blue Smoke and Jazz Standard, Shake Shack, The Modern, Cafe 2 and Terrace 5 at MoMA, Maialino at Gramercy Park Hotel, Untitled at Whitney Museum, North End Grill, Marta, Porchlight, GreenRiver, Union Square Events, and Hospitality Quotient. Union Square Events, the USHG catering division, operates several concessions at major sports facilities (Shake Shack, Blue Smoke, El Verano Taqueria, Box Frites, and Papa Rosso) including Mets Citi Field, Saratoga Race Course and Nationals Park, Washington, D.C.
In 2010, Meyer participated in a documentary film entitled "The Restaurateur".
In late 2011, the Union Square hotel group sold Eleven Madison Park to chef Daniel Humm and front-of-house director Will Guidara.

Meyer co-wrote The Union Square Cafe Cookbook (HarperCollins, 1994) with his business partner, Chef Michael Romano. This book earned IACP Julia Child Award for the best new cookbook by first author, and followed up with the very famous Second Aid of Union Square Cafe (HarperCollins, 2001). Meyer also co-authored the New York Times bestselling Manage Table (HarperCollins, 2006), which examines the strengths of hospitality in restaurants, business, and life. In May 2009, Meyer's restaurants released a cookbook of cocktails, Mix Shake Stir (Little, Brown) featuring 140 recipes, along with tips, anecdotes and photography.
Community activism
Meyer has been on duty at the Sharing of Our Strength and Capturing the City. In addition, he served as Co-Chair of Union Square Partnership for 5 years and as a member of the executive committee for NYC & amp; Co and Madison Square Park Conservancy.
Rating and reviews
Four USHG restaurants have received three stars from The New York Times; Eleven Madison Park was upgraded to four stars in 2009. USHG restaurants routinely appear among the Most Popular in New York City according to Zagat guides, including Union Square Cafe, which has occupied the # 1 spot nine times. Eleven Madison Park held three Michelin stars, The Modern earned its second Michelin Star in 2015, Gramercy Tavern holds one Michelin star, and GreenRiver was awarded a Michelin Star in 2016. In 2016, The Modern was awarded the Grand Wine Spectator Award in 2016.

In 1988, Meyer married Audrey Rayelyn Heffernan in interfaith Catholic and Jewish services at the Unitarian Church of All Souls in Manhattan.
