The Mazdaspeed3 is a hot hatch introduced for the 2007 model by Mazdaspeed and is produced until 2013. Mazdaspeed3 is an improved version of Mazda3 5-door performance.

Mazda launched Mazda3 MPS Mazda Performance Series at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show in February. The same model is sold in North America as Mazdaspeed3 and as Mazdaspeed Axela in Japan. This vehicle is a front-wheel drive and powered by a 2.3-liter inline turbo engine. Mazdaspeed3 was designed before the latest generation of hot hatch, including Dodge Caliber SRT-4, Ford Focus ST, and Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit GTI. The engines shown in Mazdaspeed3 produce 263 horsepower. Mazdaspeed3 also features a limited slip differential. The car produces 280Ã, ft lbs of torque.

Mazdaspeed3 was the company's first hot hatchback since the BG Familia GT-X in the early 1990s.

2007-2009

Mazdaspeed3 has the same 2.3 liter DISI MZR I4 turbocharged engine from Mazdaspeed Atenza (known as Mazdaspeed6 in North America and Mazda 6 MPS in Europe, South Africa and Australia). In this app, it produces 263 hp (196 kW) and 280 lbÃ, Â · ft (380 N) when running on 91 octane gasoline ((R M)/2). It's directed through the front wheels rather than the complex all-wheel drive system found at Mazdaspeed Atenza. The Australian market accepts the Mazda3 MPS with the same engine as the Mazda6 MPS with power 190Ã, kW (255Ã, hp). The machine was listed in 10 Best Ward Machines for three consecutive years.

GKN limited slip differential is standard, along with a six-speed manual transmission, anti-lock brakes, traction control and dynamic stability control. No automatic transmission option is offered. To limit the wheel slip, the drive in the first gear will be limited to produce a maximum of 230 hp (170 kW), the boost in the second gear is also limited. The amount of impulse reduction is determined by the selection of the tooth and the steering angle. There is no reduction in the third push or above.

It uses the Mazda3 five-door hatchback body, although it has an extra structural buffer and a distinct exterior styling difference. Volvo sourced 12.6 in (320 mm) front and 11.0 in (280 mm) rear disc brakes hiding under 18 in (457 mm) wheels.

Critical reception is generally very positive, with automotive authors praising the balance of cars with good performance and low cost. The review by Edmunds.com compares this vehicle well with more expensive rivals, saying "It's a lot of machines for money and offers the same balance of speed, practicality and value we've found previously only in Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution or Subaru WRX STI."

In some road tests, Mazdaspeed3 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in less than six seconds with skidpad numbers in the range of 0.87g to 0.91g. Cars and Drivers have tested the acceleration of Mazdaspeed3, completing a 0-60 mph sprint in 5.4 seconds and quarter-mile time 14.0 at 101 mph (163 km/h).

Crop level

Mazda offers two trim levels with Mazdaspeed3. The Grand Touring model has little visible difference from Mazdaspeed3 Sport, but includes embroidered racing seats and Lycra logo, Bose stereo with 6-CD in-dash changer, Xenon automatic headlights with manual leveling control, LED tail light (difference main view), and windshield wiper rain sensor.

Mazdaspeed3 Sport and GT both include front and side drivers and passenger airbags, air curtains, logo embroidered seats, stitched red seam stitching, sill-plates logo, GT-style aluminum pedals, steering audio and cruise control, automatic climate control and aluminum alloy wheels width 18 inches x 7 inches. Additional cross members in the frame of the chassis and body tense the vehicle to improve handling and control under heavy braking and acceleration in addition to spewing torsional flex. The ABS brakes help bend and wet braking, lateral disc brakes and through-ventilation on all wheels provide extreme stopping power by reducing fading. DSC and Traction Control on all Speed3 models are also standard. DSC and TC can be disabled on demand to improve driver style flexibility for experienced drivers during racing/coercion scenarios.

2010-2013

Mazdaspeed3 2010 retains the MZR 2.3 Turbo DISI engine. New ECU tweaks are provided for more useful power curves; In addition the gear ratio was revised. A functional hood scoop was added to allow a more dense charge to the intercooler mounted above while also keeping the heat absorbing to a minimum, a common complaint with the first generation Mazdaspeed3. The latest generation MZR engine contains updated pistons with "platters" around the spark plug area. It's possible to keep the fuel mix concentrated around the spark plug for better combustion. The updated car comes with some extra weight offset by ECU and dental updates. From the 2010 stationary position Mazdaspeed3 can reach 60 mph (96.5 kph) in 5.2 seconds, and a quarter of a mile in 13.9 seconds at 102 mph. Suspension and steering have been altered to improve performance, especially with the addition of electrically assisted steering. In the 2013 model, the wheels are coated with black powder, and the black mirror and the back net are black.

2013 is the last year of production for this Mazdaspeed3 generation vehicle.
