A roller shutter , roller door or sectional overhead door is a type of shutter door or window consisting of many horizontal blades (or sometimes bars or web system) hinged together. The door was lifted to open it and lowered to close it. At the big door, the action might be motorized. It provides protection against wind and rain. In the form of a shutter, it is used in front of the window and protects the windows from vandalism and piercing attempts.

Roller shutters have many applications, including doors for vans, garages, kitchens, schools, prisons and warehouses. In some parts of the world, roller windows are subsidized by the local government. In areas that are often exposed to bad weather, roller windows are used as an insulation method, can protect windows from hail damage, and can be made to withstand strong winds.
